MEN’S MINISTRY - VESTRY HANDBOOK
The purpose of Men’s Ministry is to prepare men for works of ministry, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ as defined by Eph. 4:13. For us the body of Christ may be viewed as beginning with BSC people, then the local community, the region, and ultimately the world. The following four basic scriptural principals of discipleship accomplish the purpose of Men’s Ministry.
EVANGELISM (Matt. 28:19-20): The first step in discipleship is evangelism. This should never be separated from discipleship, nor should it be considered to be an end in and of itself. The Great Commission is to “go and make disciples”, not converts. Through a faithful proclamation of the Gospel, and a firm reliance on the Holy Spirit, men’s lives will begin to change. The hope is that a non-believer will come to faith in Jesus Christ and become a believer…a believer who must continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit. At BSC we use various methods to interest men in becoming believers and disciples. A visibly obvious method is to have activities that attract men. Attending these activities exposes men to the various forms of food, fun and fellowship that make up the BSC men. This type of evangelism is by association with other men.
ESTABLISHING (Col. 2:6-7): The Great Commission not only commands us to make disciples, but it commands us to “teach them to obey.” New believers need to be “rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith.” The new believer becomes a true disciple, growing towards Christ-likeness. (2Cor. 3:18).
EQUIPPING (2Tim. 3:17): As a disciple is established in the faith, he will begin to serve the body of Christ. During this phase, the disciple will discern how the Holy Spirit has gifted him. All gifts are given to build up the body of Christ. The seasoned mature man will teach the young man. He will help equip the young man with the knowledge, character, and ministry skills that he will need to fully work as a laborer in the kingdom of God.
REPRODUCING (2Tim. 2:2): The final phase of discipleship is reproducing. As a man continues to grow up in Jesus, he begins to overflow. The life that has been poured into this disciple begins to pour out into others. The disciple becomes a discipler creating exponential growth.
